Another step I’ve taken on my gut-healing journey is the daily ingestion of tea.  More specifically, a tea that helps soothe and heal the gut.  This tea is a combination of marshmallow root, slippery elm bark, and peppermint leaf.

Do you see in the picture a sort of viscous liquid floating at the top of the cup?  That’s the marshmallow and slippery elm.  They produce a mucilage that coats the membranes and helps to reduce inflammation of the intestines, something that many people suffer from on a modern diet.  This mucilage is why you want to cold press this tea, and not use hot water, to help keep it in tact.  (It’s not gross to drink–I promise!!!)

The peppermint was initially added to help balance out the earthy taste of the tea (the taste is very mild, though), but it too has amazing healing properties of its own.  Gut-Healing Tea2__No Sugarless GumIt contributes to the anti-inflammatory nature of this tea, along with being an antispasmodic, so it helps relax your digestive tract, which reduces indigestion.  This tea not only helps repair, but also can prevent future damage!

I also add a few drops of peppermint and lemon essential oils to boost the effects of this tea, but this is optional.  I only use the doterra brand, since their oils are third-party tested for purity.

Not only does it help with digestion, but if you have an ulcer, the flu, or a sore throat, this is a great tea to use!



Add all ingredients in a one-quart mason jar.


Leave in the fridge for a minimum of 4 hours.  I usually put mine in before bed to drink slowly throughout the next day.

Strain through a mesh colander using a spatula to press out all the mucilage.

    • I have seen arguments that say it will aid in SIBO and some that say it might encourage bacteria growth. It’s hard to know what to believe in these situations but better safe than sorry.
