Fructose Malabsorption Recipes: Homemade Tootsie Rolls

Tootsie Rolls3__No Sugarless Gum

I have some scary and important news for you.  I used to buy all my supplements on Amazon (and I take a lot) since I have Amazon Prime and get free two-day shipping.  My doctor knew that I did this and knew that I was still having a lot of problems (like bloating) and sent me an article about how dangerous buying from there is.  (Read it here.)  It details how shell companies sell counterfeit, expired, or stolen pills for a discount and they could potentially contain harmful substances…even sawdust!!!  Oh, and this wasn’t written by some rando, it’s by a guy who used to work for the FDA!

So I quickly got rid of all my supplements and started to buy from a reputable source.  I didn’t see any of my symptoms abate, but I felt better knowing for sure I was getting the good stuff.

But there was something I forgot.  I take CALM everyday to help with constipation but since it doesn’t come in a pill form (it’s just a powder) I wasn’t even thinking of it as a supplement.  Well, about a week ago I got a new bottle from Amazon and not only did it taste weaker, I got the exact same taste in my mouth as when you have a tooth ground down at the dentist.  Ew!!! Fructose Malabsorption Recipes: Homemade Lollipops

I think I finally understand the difference between being tired and being exhausted.  When I was younger I thought that I was tired all the time.  That being tired was the reason it was nearly impossible to get out of bed in the morning, and why I would have to lay down on the bathroom floor while the shower warmed up because my head would swim and my vision would go fuzzy.  But that was exhaustion.  That was because I wasn’t eating right.  Eliminating fructose was really helpful for that.  Now I have so much more energy and can annoy my cat right away in the morning with my good mood while she screams at me for food. Fructose Malabsorption Recipes: Strawberry Coconut Fat Bombs

_DSC7926

Since being diagnosed with SIBO I’ve had to go on a low-carb diet to try and starve the little buggers.  This means that my body has switched over into Ketosis burning fat for energy instead of carbohydrates.  I actually like it because it’s easier for me to not feel hungry, whereas in the past I was pretty much constantly snacking.
Fat is not your enemy.  If it is high-quality then it is good for you!  Someone at work saw me eating these and when I told her they were fat bombs she looked at me like I was nuts!  “Well you can afford to eat like that because you’re skinny,” she said.  But a lot of people go on a ketogenic diet to lose weight!
I love eating these softened to room temperature.  It’s a lot like ice cream!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb of fresh strawberries
  • 1/2 cup of coconut butter
  • 1/2 cup of coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons of dextrose
  • Pinch of salt

Directions

Put the jar of coconut butter in a small pan with water and turn on medium-low to soften.

Wash and cut the tops off the strawberries and put in a blender or food processor with the rest of the ingredients.

When the coconut butter is soft and easy to scoop, add to the rest of the ingredients and puree until smooth.

Distribute puree into silicone molds and put in the freezer for about half an hour.

Elimination Diet safe: No.
